This podcast is about our experiences with being self-employed, entrepreneurship, and bootstrapping it. Sometimes I have a spectacular guest that join me and share their stories. Also it’s about connecting to our soul, our inner selves to unwind and chill. My name is Lourdes, and I hope you enjoy this episode!

Welcome back, and in this episode we’re gonna talk about naming your business. So there are some things you may wanna think about before naming your business. Do some research on the Internet to make sure that the business name you’re thinking of has not been taken. You can check it with your local state and/or government agencies. In the United States, you can visit the Secretary of State website and you can do some research on naming your business there.

And, there are four different ways to register your business name. One is entity name. Two, trademark. Three, Doing Business As, or DBA. And four, domain name. You can read about those at your government website, but I’m gonna talk about DBA. I have a different business name, so then I am a DBA, Doing Business As.

Once you figure out your business name, and you’ve registered it with your state or government authorities, you wanna go and get a .com or domain name. That would be a tricky part too, to make sure that your business name can match your website name. I mean it’s not a big deal if it doesn’t, I’ve known business owners who have different website names and domain names, and that’s different from their business name, and that’s fine too. Depending on where you live, and depending on what type of business you have, you may not need to register your business.

Ok, so now let’s brainstorm some business names. Make a list and write them down, and also check to see if a domain name is available. Look up some alternative words to use, use a thesaurus, check to see if a name is available. Do a word dump, use a keyword and maybe work around that word. And of course, you can use your name as your business name. I hope you found this episode to be helpful, and that’s it for now. Thanks!
