Plan Your Day

Show Notes –  Episode 32

Do you feel as if there is too much to do every day and not enough time to do it?  But how do some people who are super-productive, seem to get so much more done than the average person?  The way to explain it is that they’ve figured out what they needed to do, prioritize it and nothing else.

The 8th Level Podcast is about being self-employed, entrepreneurship, and managing our online business. It’s also about connecting to our souls, having the right mindset, and self-care. My name is Lourdes, and I am the host of this show. Thank you for listening to this episode today!

Do you ever wonder how some people are just so super productive that they seem to get so much done than the average person? Well in this episode, I am going to talk about some ways to prioritize our time.

So first, let’s determine what’s important. Can you think about some things that take up your time during the day? So, things that are important, but aren’t really important? Like you’re talking on the phone with a relative or a friend for an hour or more. You watch too much TV, or spend too much time scrolling through social media. Well grab a notebook, and sit down and brainstorm! Write down these things that are taking up your time. Create a schedule, use a timer to focus on the important things that you just listed.

Okay, so now that you’ve written those things down, how about we schedule everything, okay? So, did you know that they say millionaires don’t use To Do list, but instead they schedule everything? Wow! So once you know what’s important, use a calendar, schedule everything, including your leisure time. This might sound not-so romantic, but scheduling a time with the date night with your spouse and sticking to it will ensure that it happens.

But, if it’s important to you, it’s important to get it into your calendar. Now, there are different ways to get into our scheduling calendars, and I will talk about those at another episode. So be realistic about the time factor so you don’t overbook yourself. So use a calendar, pull out your planner, use an online calendar, schedule your appointments that includes your personal life as well as your business life.

Learning to say no. Do you have a lot of people, family or friends, even co-workers and bosses asking you to do all sorts of things that really that you don’t want to do? You know, it’s okay to say no. You don’t need to explain why you say no, just tell them you’re busy. They’ll eventually get the message if they keep asking you and you keep saying no that you are busy. And to give you more ideas on setting your boundaries, which one of them is saying no, I have another podcast that covers boundaries, so you might want to listen to that episode.

Okay, how about limit watching TV. It’s amazing what kind of time TV sucks out from your life these days! Now that we have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other streaming technology, anything we want is available on-demand. This makes binge watching a real thing! Save binge watching TV for when you’re sick, or when the weather is bad.

Try to limit watching TV to less than 2 hours a day. And if you have extra time to watch TV, how about watching one of those exercise channel? That way you’re not just sitting around, you’re actually moving and doing some movement and physical activity!

And I’m sure you’ve heard of this one, unplug! Some people get online to do work or some research. Others are scrolling through their smartphones and other devices to go on social media for hours on end! It’s a time-sucker, right? So, while it’s fun, unplug from being online all day. Close your laptop, turn off your devices, smartphones, and tablets, and do something else. Go for a walk, visit a neighbor or a friend, start a new hobby, or pull out your journal and start journaling.

Automate what you can. There are so many things these days that can be automated! So for example, if you have an Amazon Prime membership, you can get many things auto-shipped to you, which will save you a trip to the grocery store. You can also look up the Internet of Things, and you’ll be amazed at the type of automation that exists today.

You can automate your social media, you can automate when your lights come on. Oh my gosh, you can even automate when your television comes on, isn’t that strange? But yeah, look up Internet of Things and find out how many things you can automate.

Outsource. Outsource what you can. Did you know that you can outsource housework, mowing your yard, and even cooking? You can hire a lawnmower service, a house maid, and a cook or a chef, or you can even order the, what is it? Those boxes of groceries that come prepared with all the ingredients and all you have to do is put that together and cook it.

And if you are a business owner, did you know that you can outsource a lot of the tasks that you do to someone else like a virtual assistant? They don’t need to be in your office, they work remotely, so anything you want them to do, you get on a Zoom call and assign and delegate what those tasks are for them.

So getting more time in your day is not that difficult. You might be feeling overwhelmed and doing many things without getting any breaks. But, if you schedule things better and focus on what’s important in your life, you can manage to find more free time soon.

And join me next week, when I interview a guest who is an integrative health coach who helps women with hormonal imbalances.
