Show Notes –  Episode 36

How do you trust your gut feelings? Is it intuition, a funny feeling in your stomach, a crazy thought?

[Music intro]

The 8th Level Podcast is about being self-employed, entrepreneurship, and managing our online business. It’s also about connecting to our souls, having the right mindset, and self-care. My name is Lourdes, and I am the host of this show. Thank you for listening to this episode today!

Welcome back, and let me tell you a bit about myself! I am a business mentor, and an intuitive life coach. I’ve pivoted my business many times; I was a digital marketing strategist, social media marketer, I create WordPress websites, and do all the tech-y stuff that goes with it, like sales funnels, e-mail marketing, creating sales funnel pages, lead magnets, and all that. So just in case you didn’t know, I have been in business since 2014 like I said, and pretty much can help you with a lot of the things that you need to do online, or cannot do online. Or, if you need to get online, get in contact with me, and I can answer any questions you have. Alright, let’s go on with the show!

Today, I’m gonna talk about learning to trust your gut feelings. Did you know that we are all born with a certain amount of intuition? Well, the problem is, from a very young age, some of us were often told to ignore our feelings, or sometimes our feelings are just ignored! The more we have been taught to push down our feelings, the more likely we are not to trust our gut feelings or emotions! Very weird, right? So here are a couple of ways to start listening to your body.

Paying close attention to your surroundings and yourself. These days, people are just too busy looking at their cell phones, watching too much TV or they’re texting. So if you really wanna get in touch with your own emotions, you must silence all that distraction and start paying attention to yourself.

Alright, so here we go. Your gut is telling you that something is wrong. Everyone has the ability to know if something is not right in any given situation! The problem is, over time you may have pushed down those feelings as wrong, or sometimes you might even think it’s crazy. You meet a new person, and for no reason, you get this funky feeling about something is off. So you talk to someone, and you believe they are lying! You walk home, and something tells you not to make that shortcut today. While you may not want to react on these instances that are not cause for immediate danger, well keep an open mind, and keep your eyes opened. Chances are you’ll find out that you’re right more than you were wrong.

Have you ever had the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? Well, every human is born with a fight-or-flight effect. Sometimes, the hairs on the back of your neck will stand up, and you feel like running. Most of the time, you should pay attention to this feeling. A lot of times, when you feel this way, there might be a spider nearby, or a snake, or you think you are in serious danger. Do not ignore these nagging feelings, ever! Even if you’re wrong. It’s best to be safe.

And do you ever feel confident about your abilities? When you’re feeling confident, don’t push those feelings down. You have a right to feel good about what you are doing, and to feel capable! When you feel good about yourself, it’s not misplaced pride or bragging. So often, people, especially women, are taught from a young age not to boast about their abilities. This puts young women at a disadvantage from their male counterparts when it comes to jobs and fair pay. Allow yourself to feel confident when it’s appropriate.

Acknowledge the different emotions you experience. Don’t push away confusing emotions that you have about someone, perhaps a loved one, a friend, or a coworker. Dealing with people can be emotional and challenging. Instead, allow yourself to experience a full range of emotions. Pay close attention to these emotions. And sometimes, the solutions will come to you. But don’ t worry, you will get that solution so just feel the feelings that you’re experiencing with a coworker or a loved one, and just let it be for now. Perhaps you’re feeling something from other people, so try to name the emotions others are having. In order to improve your capacity for empathy, practice naming and expressing the emotions that other people are having. People who can show great empathy to others even if they haven’t gone through the same situation themselves have much happier lives than those who cannot relate to other human beings at all. You don’t have to be homeless yourself to understand how truly demoralizing that experience is.

Writing down the feelings that are coming to you. So keep a feelings journal for yourself to help you process different feelings that you’re having, and the different feelings that you note that the other people have about situations in life. Your journal can help you work through emotions in a healthy way, as well as give you something to look back at when you are having trouble.

And finally, test your judgment accuracy. So if you are afraid to go with your gut feeling due to having pushed down the skill from a young age, pick one thing to test. So for example, if you feel like you need to switch jobs, start job hunting. It won’t hurt to go on some interviews to test your intuition, you might find the job of a lifetime. Or if you feel strange such as running from a situation, go ahead and do it, run. As you learn to trust your emotions by practicing and feeling them, you’ll get better at discerning what’s right and wrong.

And join me next week, when I speak with a serial entrepreneur who is planning to take over his family business as his new venture!
